The African Black Soap base of our bars is made using sustainable, locally sourced, Fair-Trade oils.  By using local materials, we minimize the need for transportation and maximize the naturally beneficial properties by using fresh ingredients.  Our bar soaps, including their packaging, are also produced locally, in Ghana.  Being part of the process from harvesting to packaging final soaps, allows us to ensure the highest quality products.  We are also able to support the local economy by creating jobs and supporting local businesses.  We deeply appreciate the strong relationships that we’ve built with individuals and the communities they live in.

Why are the bars wrapped in plastic inside the carton?

Our soap is naturally hygroscopic, meaning it attracts moisture. To ensure the bars remain dry from production in Ghana to your home, we wrap them in simple plastic packaging.

What sustainable ingredients do you use?

We use sustainably harvested, certified Fair-Trade plant materials selected by our team of women in West Africa.

How is the soap made using traditional methods?

Our African Black Soap is crafted as it has been for hundreds of years. Palm kernel oil and shea butter are combined with ash from ultra-local renewable sources to create a soft, crumbly black soap base. This base is then transported to another team in Ghana, where it is mixed with natural fragrance oils, pressed, cut, stamped, wrapped and boxed into the final product.
