An exclusive interview with MellowMasher from NamePros

An exclusive interview with MellowMasher from NamePros1. Who are you?

A: Well that really does depend on what time of day it is lol. Early morning from about 5am til 7am I am a chat addict. I adore catching up with my buddies in the namepros chat room. This is *my time* I think everyone needs a little of that. I give an awful lot of myself to others so really enjoy this time. I check my mail, ad sense that kind of thing. 7am I call time and time again for my daughter to get out of bed and become a mum. During the day I either look after people in a mental home or work in a diabetic clinic at the local hospital. At night I am girlfriend, mum and dog lover. I hate shopping lmfao, I love good food especially Indian and I adore wine mixed with good company. I have a wonderful family and a solid bunch of friends. I am very open minded and not much shocks me. I dislike people that hurt others or animals, scam or are just generally not very nice people.

2. How did you become involved in domaining?

A: Before I started domaining I was always looking for ways to make a little extra money on the internet. I used to do online surveys, market research that kind of thing. I found that I really enjoyed being at home and did not find spending time on the net a chore. A few years ago I became aware of a new race course proposed to be built in an area where I live. I thought of buying a shop close by and selling hats but really wanted to do more with my computer. Don’t ask me where the idea of buying related names came from because even now, I really don’t know. I decided to buy a couple of names related to the race course and had all intentions of building an information site. As I had no idea what the hell I was doing started searching around for more information and that’s where I found Namepros.

3. What is your role @ NamePros?

A: From time to time I beat people in the cellar, a little kinky but they seem to like it. Seriously though, I’m a greatful member. Most of what I have learnt has either come directly from there or from connections made from there. I have, over the years made some very good cyber buddies.

4. Top 3 domain registrars?

A: Well I like Godaddy for the codes. I know a lot of members don’t like godaddy but up to now I have not had a problem and find most of the time with coupons they are hard to beat. I used to like Moniker but imo and it is just that, I have had some problems of late so my opinion is low. I like domainsite. It’s quick and easy. I register all my .ins now with fellow member Samit aka Wizzy. He owns mediawiz and the service he provides is second to none.

5. Top 3 TLD’s?

A: .com .org and .info. I think .com is a no brainer and think.org and .info are very under valued. Both the latter imo are not like .com in the way that .com fits everything. These two need to have words, terms that actually fit the extension. I have a few .orgs like homelessaid and recyclebottles, recyclecans which I think fit the extension perfectly, others may disagree lol. The same with .info I have many one worders and stay away from brandables.

6. Top 3 ccTLD’s?

A: Well I would have to say .co.uk hehe as I am a crazy brit and it is used a lot in the UK. Second for me is .in, I will talk a little more about that in my next answer and .de.

7. What is your interest in .in’s & LLL.in’s?

A: Like many, I missed the boat with 3l.coms. I’m not comparing them in any way but do think the better ones will grow in value and maybe make me a few pennies. I have flipped around 200 of these in 2008 and made a nice profit but the better of my collection I had always intended to hold for that golden end user we are all looking for. Like all names, research is a must not all 3l.ins will be golden and never invest more then you are willing to lose.

8. What direction do you see domaining in 2009?

A: Interesting question. I don’t think parking will die but I do think not many big bucks will be made from it anymore unless it’s a *great* name. Development I think will be the key. Give people some content when they arrive. I have not mentioned .TV but I do like this extension. It is being used more and more in the UK and I think this will continue to grow.. Imo .biz is dead and will just sink a little deeper and did .name ever breathe life?? New extensions will come, many will fail, making the registrar’s lots of money and only those that can afford to get names like loan money travel etc richer. The internet is here to stay it’s not going anywhere and will only continue to grow.

Like with anything in life… learn before you leap. I cannot suggest enough the importance of reading and learning what domaining is about before you spend your money. I am still learning every day but loving every minute of it.

Thanks for the questions Corey. This is the first interview I have ever done. I hope I was of some interest lol

Thank you for your time Michelle, I really appreciate it.  I’m sure the domaining industry will find this information an interesting read.
